Spicy Gram Flour Fudge / Besan bites / Thapat Wadi / Maswadi / Patwadi

Spicy gram flour fudge / besan bites are also known as Thapatwadi / Maswadi/ Patwadi.

It is authentic Maharashtrian dish which can be eaten as a snacks or can have with Roti.

On second day of Maharashtrian Ganesh Chaturthi festival , Gauri 's (mother of lord Ganesha)  idols brought home. She stays there for three days and gives blessing to our house.

Gram flour fudge is considered as Gauri's favorite dish and it is  main Naiwedya (offering to Gauri) on second day of Ganesh Chaturthi.




Ingredients :

 

2 cups gram flour 
6 green chilies
1 inch ginger 
4 cloves garlic
Dry coconut half cup
Coriander
Oil
Cumin seeds
Asafoetida
Jaggery
Turmeric powder

Recipe : 

1. Make a paste of  4 garlic cloves, 6 green chillies, i inch ginger and dry coconut with blender or if available,  with traditional stone grinder. Do not use water while grinding. Keep it dry. 
2. Heat up oil in a pot for tempering .
3. Add cumin seeds and let them pop up.
4. Add the paste of ginger , garlic, chilly  and coconut .
5. Roast it well in heated oil.
6. Add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1/6 tsp asafoetida , 1 large spoon grated jaggery, salt and stir it well .
7. Add 1 1/2 large hot water to it.

 

8. bring water to boil for approximately 1 minute .
9. When water begins to boil , add 2 cups of gram flour. Add one spoon at at time . 
10. Keep stirring this mixture so that there should not be any cluster/ lumps of flour in it.


11. Cover and steam on low heat flame for about 5 minutes on low flame till batter come as round together. It should not stick to pot . 
12. Spread the oil with hands on big wooden plate or traditional wooden roti maker.
13. Put this cooked, soft  mixture on it  and spread it evenly over wooden plate with oily palm or  the lower side of  steel bowl or with traditional wooden roti roller.
14. Spread grated dried coconut and chopped coriander on its top. Press it well so that it will stick to cooked mixture. 


15. After cooling , cut this with knife in diamond shape.
16. Spicy Gram Flour Fudge is ready to eat. 

Note:

1. You can eat these for  two days.
2. If more than 2 days, keep it in fridge. Just roast it on non stick pan with 1/2 tsp oil .
3. If the flour is not cooked well , wadis become sticky. So please be patient till it comes as round together.
4. If you don't add  dry coconut while cooking, the flour can not hold well. It is must to add dry coconut .  It also add nice taste too .
