INGREDIENTS :
- 1 cup roasted semolina (Rawa)
- 1/2 cup curd
- 1/2 cup water
- Chopped carrots
- 2 spoons green peas
- Oil for tampering
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- Fresh curry leaves
- Pinch of asafoetida
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp grated ginger
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1 spoon Roasted chana dal
- 1 spoon cashew nuts ( optional )
METHOD:
HOW TO MAKE IDLI BATTER ?
1. Heat oil for tampering.
2. Add mustard seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, chana dal, cashew nuts .
3 . Let seeds pop for a minute .
4. If Rawa is not pre- roasted, then you can roast with this tampering.
5. You you are using already roasted rava, just add in tampering and off your stove.
7. Let this mixture cools down.
8. Add 1/2 cup curd and water as required.
9. Add salt salt to taste. You can add pinch of sugar too. This will give nice taste. Add grated ginger.
10. Mix it well. Your batter is ready.
11. Keep this batter for 15 minutes.
HOW TO MAKE IDLI ?
1. After 15 minutes, check your batter. It usually soaks all water.
2. Add water again if needed to adjust its thickness.
Add 1/4 tsp baking soda just before pouring batter in Idli maker. Mix well.
3. Grace Idli stand with oil.
4. Pour your batter in it.
5. Keep Idli stand in Idli maker. Your Idli maker should have enough water at bottom to steam your idalis.
6. Keep your stove on high flame
7. Steam Idli for approx 7-8 minutes.
8. Before removing from Idli maker, check if it's cooked nicely from inside.
9. You can insert toothpick in it. It should come out without any sticky batter over it.
10. Once steamed, remove them from idali stand.
11. Your tastey vegetable Rawa Idli is ready to serve.
12. Serve it with sambar or chutney.
If you want to make vegan Idli , you can skip adding curd.
