Carrot Halwa / How to make Gajar Halwa with step by step pictures

Gajar Halwa or Carrot Halwa is Indian dessert loved by everyone. 

It's blend of carrot, milk , sugar along with homemade ghee. 

Sharing here traditional recipe for Gajar Halwa/ Carrot Halwa with step by step photos .


Ingredients :

10 fresh carrots
1/2 cup milk
2/3 cup sugar 
2 spoons homemade ghee

Method

1. Wash carrots clean. 

2. Peel it's skin . If you don't peel carrots , it doesn't give you fresh orange colour Halwa. Halwa colour is little blackish if you used unpeeled carrots.

3. Grate them as show in below photo.


4. Take a thick bottom cooking pot.
Melt 2 spoons ghee in it. Make sure it's bottom coated with melted ghee. This will help to make it non- sticky.

4. Add grated carrots. Saute well for a minute till it gives nice aroma of ghee.

5. Add 1/2 cup milk or thick milk cream if you have.
Let it boil for 1/2 minute and then turn your flame medium .


6. Cook it till mixture becomes thick. To check if carrot cooked , try to break pinch of grated carrot with nails . It should break easily.


7. Once carrot cooked in milk cream, add sugar in it.
Use approximately 1/4 sugar of grated carrot.
Adjust accordingly to sweetness you want.


8. Make your flame low. Stir this carrot, sugar mixture continuesly till it becomes thick


9. Mouth watering Carrot Halwa is ready to serve.
Garnish with dry fruits.
