PUNJABI CHOLE | CHANA MASALA | CHICKPEAS CURRY

 
PANJABI CHOLE | CHANA MASALA | CHICKPEAS CURRY is favorite curry from the Indian state of Punjab.

 Chole are chickpeas, which is the main ingredient with other Indian spices.




INGREDIENTS 

1 bowl chole - chickpeas
 oil for tempering
water as required
salt to taste
1 tsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp sugar

For Gravy 
1 onion
1 tomato
2 garlic cloves
1 inch ginger

Spices
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 bay leaf
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
2 tsp red chili powder
 


METHOD


Make a fine paste of ingredients listed under GRAVY

1. Soak 1 bowl chole  in water for at least 8 hours.


2. Cook in pressure cooker . 



3. Heat oil for tempering

4. Add 1 tsp cumin seeds and 1 bay leaf. let them pop.

5. Add onion tomato gravy.

6. Saute well.

7. Add turmeric power, garam masala, red chili powder, salt to taste , sugar and lemon juice.

8. Saute well.

9. Add pressure cooker cooked chole (chickpeas) with 1/2 cup water in it.

10. Cover it with lid.

11. Let it cook for 5 more minutes on medium flame.

12. Panjabi chole are ready. Serve them with super soft bhatura.
